El Palmar is a long stretch of virgin beach with soft white sand and windswept covered dunes. It´s a stone’s throw to Conil, a thriving tourist town in summer, but, except for weekends and local fiestas it´s a slumbering cinder awaiting the arrival of next years tourists.
This is a popular haunt among surfers and paddle surfers who take to the sea to be tested by the ever changing crosswinds. There is no end of schools where you can learn, and you can find lots of places in the area of the beach who will rent you surfing equipment. You should be aware however that Kite-surf and windsurf is not permitted on this beach. For this sport it´s best to head for Playa de los Bateles in Conil.
Overlooking the beach is a wide assortment of bars, restaurants and chill-out places that are full in the summer with some offering live music. It begins to get lively when the surfers make their appearance to let their hair down after a strenuous work out on their boards.
Sadly, it´s very difficult to find parking spaces during the high season so make sure you are up early to avoid disappointment.
